Re: [BCAB] C# / .net / Powershell development with Visual Studio Andrew Hodgson 10 Oct 2016 12:01 BST
Hi, When I was learning both of these I was spending a lot of time on CBTNuggets. It is an online video but I found the videos very good with just voice. There are examples to download though as well. The learning curve between the two systems is going to be quite steep though because you are moving from a packaged system to a completely open ended development environment where you will be writing the web application. I am pretty much involved with the same type of migration, and none of the people working on the new code are Oracle Forms developers because it is a different skill in my opinion. When dealing with PowerShell, I had an electronic book which I got through iBooks called a Month of PowerShell lunches. If you do a Google for it you will get the current edition. In terms of the test environment, I don't have much experience with writing test scripts, though I have written a framework to get automated testing to run as part of a build pipeline. Thanks. Andrew. ________________________________________ From: Bcab [firstname.lastname@example.org] on behalf of Houston, John [email@example.com] Sent: 10 October 2016 11:53 To: 'firstname.lastname@example.org' Subject: [BCAB] C# / .net / Powershell development with Visual Studio Hi everyone, This is my first mail to the mailing list. I don't know if anyone has any advice/help. My situation is that at my place of employment we are currently in the process of having all our IT systems being re-written. We currently use Oracle forms/pl/sql and still use a lot of cobol but everything is being re-written with Microsoft technology. Arising from 1 to 1s I am having with my line manager I am trying to get to grips with the topics mentioned in the subject of my email. I would appreciate any help from anyone who uses any of the above particularly what accessible training /support / tools are available for C# / .net / Powershell development with Visual Studio, especially for unit testing. I have been pointed to pluralsight by my manager but don't find these courses particularly accessible. I use JAWS version 14 and am using Windows 7. Any help/advice would be very welcome. Thanks.
