The ipod shuffle should do the trick. It just has a large play button, and
buttons to back forward and to raise and lower the volume.

Thanks to all who responded about this one.

My conclusion is that a cheap, simple screenless mp3 player would probably
fit the bill.  It would need to have controls which would be  easy for older
people to use, and have the ability to skip from track to track.

Can anyone suggest a product which would fit the bill?
