Re: [BCAB] accessible burglar alarm Mohammed abbas Rashid 01 May 2012 09:58 BST

Hi. I have heard of the sentico alarm system for which I got the details
from Steve Nutt at Computer Room Services.

His number is:
01438742286.

When I contacted them, which was a couple of years ago, they did have an
alarm system which had a Braille overlay and full speech output.

They were able to taylor the alarm system to your requirements too.

Hope it all helps.

Kind regards
Mohammed Rashid

I have a rather ancient alarm system. The control box is gradually wearing
out. It has got to the stage where regularly used buttons don't always work
first time. As I am also gradually wearing out I cannot hear the beeps which
an active press of a button induces. We became ADT clients after one of the
takeovers in the home security market. When discussing upgrading, or at
least renewing, our system with ADT we were told that they had nothing that
was particularly accessible. They offered a system with enhanced beeps. ADT
usually provide equipment supplied by Honeywell Systems and are not keen on
supporting other manufacturers equipment.

Over the last year I have tracked down three 'accessible' systems only to be
told that they are no longer manufactured or supported. Two of the three may
have been the same equipment differently branded. The RNIB used to have
details of a system but these seem to have been removed and I am sure that
at the last Sight Village I attended, probably last year, someone was
talking about an 'accessible intruder alarm' but I was not able to get any
details.

If anyone still has the catalogue for that Sight Village in Birmingham it
may have details of the company.

Steve

I would appreciate any info as well. Someone from ADT is visiting to do an
assessment. has anyone tried their monitoring service?
