Re: [BCAB] Best Device For Labelling Items, Food Etc? goshawk on horseback 02 Nov 2012 09:26 GMT

the penfriend is cheap and ok, but I personally wouldn't use it on through
away items, such as food packaging, because of it's limited number of
available labels.
I personally prefer the ID mate range of devices, of which I currently have
the summit version. it is far from cheap, but the main things I like about
it are:
1. it uses existing barcodes on things, so no need to use extra labels.
2. because it has a database of existing products, it can recognize a number
of items already, with out having to put in any info yourself.
3. because it uses barcodes, rather than specialist labels, it's
possibilities and uses are far more flexible than penfriend.
4. it has far superior audio quality.
and 5. if one also has something like one of the QL range of brother label
printers, you can make your own barcode labels for items that don't have
existing ones, and use them with the ID mate device, giving you more or less
infinite labeling possibilities.

Hi

The Penfriend is a relatively cheap and effective way of labelling things.
With some invention, you can lable just about anything. Here's a link to
details:
