Hi Mary.

I wouldn't wish to influence the corse of action one way or another as it's
clearly being looked at in an appropriately serious way. You may have to
just download a few of the apps and try them to see how accessible they are.

Graham

Hi Graham,

Thanks. It's for someone who needs the phone some of the time, but the
complexities of their employment mean they would need a second PC just for
the phone. Their Jaws scripter has suggested it would be cheaper and easier
to use an iPhone app if it would work, but didn't know how usable they would
be.

Regards

Mary

Is this for a receptionist or someone who just needs to use the phone
occasionally? If they need to answer the phone a lot then it may be worth
looking at getting the software speaking or magnified with appropriate
access technology on an appropriate PC.

This would probably mean an access to work assessment. Maybe of course this
has been done already. I can't see an IPhone based solution being practical
for someone taking calls as a primary part of work. if they do, then buying
some of them on an individual basis and checking them could be the only way
to see if they are accessible.

Graham

Subject: [BCAB] Accessible softphone app for iPhone

Hi

A friend needs a softphone at work. It's difficult at her workplace to do
via a PC, but it has been suggested that there might be a suitable
accessible softphone app for the iPhone, that would allow her to use her
employer's switchboard. Has anyone tried any of iPhone softphone apps, and
if so how well did they work?

Thanks

Mary Steiner
