Re: [BCAB] government gateway Carr, Matthew 19 Nov 2012 12:13 GMT

Hi All

On a slightly related matter I am trying to find people who have had
issues with DWP surrounding access to information. I am trying to
support a case being built against them as their response to date is
simply that their system is great and if anybody is affected it is a one
off case not a trend!

Let me know if you are interested in supporting the case and want more
information

Thanks

Matt

Thanks for your advice Linda.

This really does feel like a big government mess however. it's clunky,
awkward and inherently insecure because you need this ID and then it is
sent
in a form that is difficult to use and work with. I said I had
forgotten my
ID and got sent another which let me log into the government gateway
which
does not include job match as one of the services listed. I tried to
then
log in on the job match site to be told my account is locked and that I
should contact the help desk. No contact details or a link were given
on
the page that appeared.

If other people are having the trouble I've had getting this to work I
don't
suppose we can shut down all the call centres run by DWP where they can
do a
job search for you just yet (smile).

You have to wait for a user id to be sent in the post.

Hi all.

Has anyone used the government gateway website? The idea is that you
can
register one username and password to access government services. I did
this and was asked to verify my email address.

I tried to log in and was told I should have a user ID. I have an email
confirming registration but this does not contain a user ID.

I clicked on forgotten my user ID and have been asked for my password
and
email address. The page that was returned gives the first half of my
user
ID and says the second half will be sent in an email for security
reasons.

There are 2 or 3 major things wrong with this approach. Firstly, user
ids
generated by the system are bad news because people don't choose them so
often don't remember them. Secondly, this process of half the id
displayed
on screen and half emailed to you is just bureaucracy gone mad and in
fact
this could be a scene from that infocom game written in part by Douglas
Adams called Bureaucracy! Is this procedure really that complicated or
am I
missing something obvious?y
