Sunil,

I haven't done this for a while, but there is an option in Itunes to clear
the library. In essence, if you view the library, and nothing is there, you
are good to go.

Best,

David.

Cheers David, I only saw the message recommending iTunes folder watch. Could
you clarify exactly which files and folders I should delete before
rebuilding? Would prefer to avoid corrupting anything or deleting the wrong
thing.

Cheers
Sunil

Sunil,

You are best off clearing the library and rebuilding as recommended in my
last message. Believe it or not, it won't take that long.

Best,

David.

Cheers David,

This sounds good. So once I use it to relocate all my files, will iTunes
automatically clean up all the redundant shortcuts that pointed to the same
files in different locations?

Sunil,

You may want to consider a utility called Itunes Folder Watch. I can't find
where I got it from at the moment, but a google search should get it for
you.
Once installed, you can get it to search specified folders for music, and it
adds them to the itunes library. It takes a lot less time than trying to
rebuild it manually.

Best,

David.

Subject: [BCAB] Tidying up iTunes library

Hi,

I've shifted a lot of files around and deleted a lot of duplicate files in
my documents since I first built an iTunes library on my computer. Because I
manipulated the files in Finder as opposed to doing it from within iTunes,
there are a lot of shortcuts in iTunes that point towards files that have
either been moved or deleted. Because there are so many instances of this I
thought I may as well delete my iTunes library and build a new one. I don't
have any playlists and am not bothered about retaining play counts or
anything.

Is there an alternative to starting all over again, maybe a menu option I
could activate from an options menu in iTunes? If not, what file to I need
to delete? I'd like to avoid deleting any important system files.

Thanks a lot,

Sunil
