Hi Graham, I'm not aware of a way of connecting the Tvonics box to a TV using the scart output, and to a hifi, simultaneously. This is because the Tvonics does not have a dedicated audio out. In order to get audio out of the Tvonics, you need to extract it from the signals sent via either the scart or optical outputs. So the only way I could imagine achieving what you want would be via a splitter cable. I don't know if these are available, but you could have a look. You would need a cable with a scart socket at one end to take the output from the Tvonics box, and a splitter with a scart socket on one side and phonos on the other, as the outputs. Apart from not knowing whether the appropriate cable exists, there could also be an issue arising from the fact that you would be powering two devices from a signal the strength of which is designed to drive just one. In case you don't have them, here is what the instructions say on the subject: "Connecting to a HIFI or speakers (sound only set up) With the rear of the box facing you, plug your aerial cable into the aerial In socket (furthest left). Plug the mains power cable into the furthest right socket. If your HIFI or speakers have an optical in then you can connect using the SPDIF socket which is just to the left of the mains socket. If you do not have an optical in then you can connect it to a HIFI using the SCART socket and an adaptor. The adaptor you will need is a SCART to Phono adaptor. These are readily available on the high street. This plug changes the SCART into three Phono plug sockets - red, white and yellow. You can then attach it to your HIFI using a standard Phono cable. If you want to attach it to a set of speakers which have a 3.5mm headphone plug then you will need a further adaptor/cable." In an ideal world, i'd like to connect my box to a hifi and a tv. I know there is a HDMI socket but can this also be used to connect to a line in audio or do you need the scart socket for this? My tv has a scart input but no HDMI inputs and my amp only has audio inputs. anything I can do to get both working? Regards Graham -----Original Message----- From: Bcab [mailto:bcab-bounces@lists.bcab.org.uk] On Behalf Of Agent Orange Sent: 07 December 2012 12:06 To: 'BCAB Discussion List' Subject: Re: [BCAB] connecting TVonics box to hi fi Graham, I believe you will need a scart to phono converter cable. Then you either connect the phonos from this converter directly to your HiFi, or, if you only have a stereo 3.5mm input, a second cable to convert the phonos to a stereo 3.5mm jack. Details are given in the Tvonics instructions which you can download from the RNIB online shop. The one point about which I am not certain is this: the scart to phono converter actually has three output plugs, two are the red / white phono plugs which will supply the audio. But there is a third, I think it provides the video element of the signal and can be ignored. I think it may be coloured yellow but feels just the same as the red / white phono plugs. I guess you just ignore this third output, and without any sighted assistance, trial and error will be required to identify which of the three are the red and white phonos. Perhaps others know more... Hope that helps. An old chestnut this one I suspect but, I have recently bought a TVonics talking freeview box and wondered how i go about connecting it to my hifi. I understand it does not have audio out so I would need to convert the output from one of the scart sockets to audio. is this just a case of buying a cable or is there more I need?
