Hi all.

I have been asked a question about scanning faxes and graphical images sent
to a person in a work environment to read.

I know that using a program such as Kurzweil 1000 is very effective for this
as you can scan directly into the program or use the convert option that you
can get at from the context menu in Internet Explorer.

Still, over £600 is quite a lot to ask so before justifying this, are there
simpler solutions?

I know that Omnipage and Finereader can be used for these tasks but I would
guess the process would be slower as you need to convert written scanned
documents into a form that is readable rather than working within the
program directly.

The question generally is whether to suggest a bespoke solution such as
Kurzweil 1000 or one of the cheaper options. I think that quite a lot of
tif files and PDF files will be scanned so any views on quick effective OCR
of these file types would be helpful. The PDF files contain no actual text
so doing OCR is required.

Regards

Graham
