I've been an Ocado customer for seven years, and I agree with all of Léonie's comments about ocado.com, with one exception. I've noticed recently that I've started having a couple of accessibility issues with the site. When I have a lot of items in my trolley, I find that long pages, eg, pages of search results or my list of favourites, become very slow to navigate with JAWS. By "slow" I mean that JAWS inserts long pauses of anything between 2 and 20 seconds between me pressing a navigation key (such as H for heading), and JAWS speaking the result. Within these pauses, the PC does not respond and JAWS does not talk. It does sometimes buffer keystrokes which are executed after the pause ends. However, this can mean that it takes literally an hour or longer to completely work through a long page. This has started making shopping on the site very slow in deed. Another issue is that when changing pages JAWS does not activate the virtual cursor. Even once the page has fully loaded, I have to simulate a right click with the mouse to bring up the context menu, and then press escape to get rid of it. Only this will cause JAWS to switch into virtual cursor. Even if I alt tab back into the browser it doesn't activate the virtual cursor. These could, of course, be issues with my PC rather than the website. I'm using XP with JFW 12, and my browser is IE8. Perhaps I will try shopping with Firefox next time to see whether that helps. But if anyone else has noticed anything similar, I'd be interested to know. Ocado is, despite this, an excellent choice. Not only do they brand match on price with Tesco, I find their customer service to be friendly and helpful, both from drivers and from their Irish call centre staff. I get very few missing goods or substitutes, and those substitutes I do get are sensible and generally acceptable. Definitely a thumbs up for anyone who is in their delivery area. They price match with Tesco, and they also have a range of passes to help you save money. We have the delivery pass because we shop there weekly, and it reduces each delivery to about £2 over the course of the year. We also have one of the saving passes, which gives us 10% off about 600 items. Okado also has some nice customer service touches. They text you reminders about the deadline for editing your order, and they text yu on the day of delivery to let you know the name of your driver, the registration of the delivery vehicle, and whether you have any missing items. If you have more than three missing items, they phone you instead. Every single one of their drivers has been pleasant and courteous. They always offer to carry the shopping through to the kitchen for me if that would be helpful. Customers are regularly invited to rate the driver who delivered their shopping, and it seems that they give out a driver of the year award. They send you a receipt by email. It's a PDF which hasn't been tagged, but it's still readable with a screen reader. The receipt also tells you which products should be used on the day of delivery, within 24 hours, within a week and so forth. The website is easy to use. The only accessibility problem I've come across to date (which I've reported) is that you can't select a rating if you're reviewing a product. Hope this helps, even if it doesn't answer your question directly. Any ideas on whether the accessible site is the way to go or not? I use the main Tesco site now.
