Thanks Sean.  Does anyone have any suggestions for a reliable email
provider?  I don't mind paying something for a reliable email service if
that is necessary.  Obviously I know about gmail, Hotmail etc, but I choose
not to use them.

According to TalkTalk Customer Service, you're guaranteed access to the
email for a minimum of 60 days, and a maximum of 90 days
after you leave. This doesn't include the ability to log into the "my
account" pages to change or recover passwords etc, simply
retrieve messages.  Historically people on forums have been able to access
this longer, but of course that's at the good will of
TalkTalk rather than anything they offer as you aren't paying them at that
point.

I'd strongly advise checking this when you cancel, however, and would
advise anybody to not, primarily, use an ISP-provided
mailbox. They're good for backup, but unless you're guaranteed a long term
relationship with them, you're much better off paying
separately.

Hi,
With BT, at least, I know you can pay something like #5 monthly, that might
be available with talktalk, while you switch everything
over,  then discontinue it.
